Kevin McShea is the quintessential Peerless Athlete. A pitcher/first baseman, Kevin plays in the Summer Frederick American Legion and for his high school, Thomas Johnson in Frederick, MD. He has the "just tell me what to do and I'll do it" type of dedication that molds an individual into a tough athlete and a tough person. Kevin became a Peerless Athlete a year ago and his dedication has paid off, even more than he expected.
"I started weightlifting as a freshman in high school, doing basic lifts to get stronger, but didn't feel the workouts were meant to improve sport performance. I didn't see much improvement...But in this last year alone I saw more improvement than I did the past 2 years combined."
"My pitch speed was high 70's ... I now hang around mid-to low 80's topping out at 85MPH. I have more stamina now and I can maintain my pitch speed for 60-80 pitches."
Kevin also saw his bat speed increasing going from a slow swing to having "the fastest bat on the team last time we measured... I am hitting the ball a lot harder and a lot further"
When Kevin started with Peerless, he told us about some shoulder pain he experienced while pitching and that he wasn't maintaining his pitch speed throughout the game. But that was a year ago. Peerless Athletics provided Kevin with customized shoulder injury prevention exercises to rebuild strength in his shoulder and improve his power-endurance on the mound.
"I like how organized it is, how it trains me specifically for baseball. Before I would gradually get stronger, but with this (program) I am getting better in baseball... I feel quicker and more explosive... A lot of people are lifting but they don't have a true purpose, they don't know why they are doing what they are doing, but I know that Peerless knows how to get you better."
Congrats Kevin! Keep up the great work!
