The Dead Bug is a fundamental core exercise that helps teach the concept of "bracing" or "drawing in" which is the ability to engage the abdominals and other core musculature concentrically on exhalation (think blowing out the birthday candles) and eccentrically while inhaling (breathe through your nose and feel your abs harden and stretch like they are inflating).
